In the name of the one who taught us to turn the other cheek, the church often cut off people\u2019s heads.In the name of the one who taught us to love our enemies, the church often burned its enemies alive. In the name of the one who taught us to bless those who persecute us, the church often became a ruthless persecutor. In the name of the one who taught us to take up the cross, the church often took up the sword and nailed others to the cross\u00a0(<a title=\"The Myth of a Christian Nation\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0310267315\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=jdmyers-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0310267315\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Myth of a Christian Nation<\/em><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=tiheco-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0310267315\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/>\u00a0p. 81).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Our world is soaked in blood as nation rises against nation. Far too often, the church has stood in support of their nation as it went off to war, defending the nation\u2019s righteous cause while calling for the blood of its enemies.<\/p>\n<p>How can this be when we have Jesus as our example?<\/p>\n<p>How can we possibly think that Jesus, who shed His blood for His enemies, would support our attempts to the shed the blood of our enemies?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-10933\" title=\"cross-sword-sculpture\" src=\"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/cross-sword-sculpture.jpg\" alt=\"cross-sword-sculpture\" width=\"298\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/cross-sword-sculpture.jpg 298w, https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/cross-sword-sculpture-150x99.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 298px) 100vw, 298px\" \/>The last thing this world needs is more blood. Yet we go and kill our neighbors and our brothers, and we do it in the name of justice and freedom. We kill for the cause of Christ while the shed blood of Jesus cries out to us from the cross: <em>Enough! <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>For though we were His enemies, and He had the only \u201cjust cause\u201d in history, He did not seek to defeat His enemy by putting us to death, but by facing death Himself.
