{"id":2436,"date":"2011-03-12T13:24:38","date_gmt":"2011-03-12T18:24:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/?p=2436"},"modified":"2013-07-09T06:49:46","modified_gmt":"2013-07-09T14:49:46","slug":"ebook-publishing-is-on-the-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/ebook-publishing-is-on-the-rise\/","title":{"rendered":"eBook Publishing is on the Rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/ebook-publishing-is-on-the-rise\/ebooks1\/\" title=\"RedeemingGod image 2579\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2579\" title=\"ebooks1\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/ebooks1-153x200.jpg\" width=\"153\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/ebooks1-153x200.jpg 153w, https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/ebooks1-230x300.jpg 230w, https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/ebooks1.jpg 323w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 153px) 100vw, 153px\" \/><\/a>eBook publishing will never fully replace paper book publishing, but over the next decade or so, we will see eBooks gain a much larger percentage of the total books bought and sold around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the following statistics from the <a href=\"http:\/\/web.resourceshelf.com\/go\/resourceblog\/58352\">Association of American Publishers<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>U.S. publishers had net sales of $23.9 billion in 2009, down from $24.3 billion in 2008, representing a 1.8% decrease.<\/li>\n<li>Adult Hardbound books showed healthy growth of 6.9%, $2.6 billion in 2009.\u00a0Paperbound books for adult fell 5.2% to $2.2 billion.<\/li>\n<li>Hardbound books in the children and young adult category fell 5.0% to $1.7 billion while their paperbound equivalent grew 2.2% to $1.5 billion.<!--more--><\/li>\n<li>Mass Market paperbacks decreased 4.0%.<\/li>\n<li>Audio book sales for 2009 totaled $192 million, down 12.9%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>E-books sales reached $313 million in 2009, up 176.6% <\/strong>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.yankeegroup.com\/about_us\/press_releases\/2011-02-01.html\">Source<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Religious book sales dropped 9.0% to $659m in 2009.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Almost every category of publishing is down, except for eBook publishing, which was up 176%! In 2010, eBook sales totaled $441.3 million. This site only tracks 14 publishers, so eBook sales may actually be twice as high. <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/jacketcopy\/2010\/11\/ebook-sales-headed-for-1-billion.html\">The LA Times<\/a> says that total eBook sales were $966 million, and will top $3 billion by the middle of the decade. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/epicenter\/2010\/07\/amazon-more-e-books-than-hardcovers\/\">Amazon reported last year<\/a> that they are selling nearly twice as many eBooks as Dead Tree Books (or DTB &#8211; paper books).<\/p>\n<p>If you want to learn about eBook publishing, now is the time.<\/p>\n<p>In the next post, we will look at five of the benefits of eBooks and eBook publishing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>eBook publishing will never fully replace paper book publishing, but over the next decade or so, we will see eBooks gain a much larger percentage of the total books bought and sold around the world.
