According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/blogs\/thetwo-way\/2011\/03\/04\/134210352\/new-bible-updates-language-booty-falls-by-wayside\">NPRs News blog<\/a>, here are some of the swaps included in the new Bible:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;booty&#8221; is now &#8220;spoils of war&#8221; \u2014 for presumably obvious reasons.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;virgin&#8221; becomes &#8220;young woman&#8221; \u2014 especially where the original uses the Hebrew word &#8220;almah.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;holocaust&#8221; will become &#8220;burnt offerings&#8221; &#8211; scholars say that was closer to the original meaning, before &#8220;holocaust&#8221; came to be identified with the genocide of World War II.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;cereal&#8221;\u2014 now co-opted by General Mills and Post, becomes &#8220;grain.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ironically, a woman named &#8220;Mary&#8221; reported that &#8220;virgin&#8221; in Isaiah 7:14 should no longer be translated as &#8220;virgin&#8221; but as &#8220;young woman.&#8221; Mary Sperry, who oversees Bible licensing for the bishops, told Reuters that\u00a0&#8220;The bishops and the Bible are not signaling any sort of change in the doctrine of the virgin birth of Jesus. None whatsoever.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So I guess Mary is still a virgin.
