<\/a>Knowing how to get through life depends in large part on know what kind of person you are.<\/p>\n

A while back I wrote a post about three different types of people: wave makers, wave riders, and sand sitters<\/a>. I decided at the time that I was a wave rider.<\/p>\n

Today, Ed Cyzewski, of In a Mirror Dimly<\/a>, and author of Coffeehouse Theology<\/a><\/em>, wrote about three types of people: pastor, theologian, or artist. He emphasizes the importance of knowing who you are.<\/p>\n

Here is some of what he wrote:<\/p>\n

Pastors are expected to do many things that play to my weaknesses. I soon realized that I could not effectively serve God or the church as a pastor, even if I have a pastoral heart in some respects.<\/p>\n

Theologians immerse themselves in research and become experts in all of the primary and secondary sources of their field. They must absorb much. They have to read certain theology books that may not prove insightful or beneficial but must be learned for the sake of their field. They run the risk of turning God into a subject to be studied.<\/p>\n

While I have many friends who thrive as Christian theology scholars, I soon learned I wasn\u2019t cut out for that kind of life.<\/p>\n

Instead, I stumbled into writing, a more artistic pursuit than the other two. In some respects I write as a kind of middle man between the seminary and the pew, but I\u2019m also interested in examining ideas and experiences in the forms of nonfiction stories and am moving toward fiction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
