{"id":373,"date":"2008-07-08T21:45:49","date_gmt":"2008-07-09T02:45:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/?p=373"},"modified":"2013-05-31T18:38:38","modified_gmt":"2013-06-01T02:38:38","slug":"a-red-letter-blessing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/a-red-letter-blessing\/","title":{"rendered":"A Red Letter Blessing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I was cleaning carpets today in a house in Arlington, I noticed that there were several books sitting around called <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Red-Letters-Living-Faith-Bleeds\/dp\/0781445353\/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1215570863&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\">Red Letters<\/a> <\/em>by Tom Davis. I asked the homeowners about it, and they informed me that they attend Pantego Bible Church and lead a home group, in which they are currently reading and discussing this book.<\/p>\n<p>Then they gave me a free copy!<\/p>\n<p>There is almost nothing I love more than free books.<\/p>\n<p>On the ride back to the shop, I opened\u00a0the book\u00a0up, and not only did I get the book free, but is has been autographed! That was a bonus.<\/p>\n<p>And to top it all off, there was a piece of paper stuck inside the front cover as well. I opened it up, and out fell a check for $10,000!<\/p>\n<p>No, I&#8217;m just kidding about the check. But there was a piece of paper inside, and on it was written &#8220;A Franciscan Blessing&#8221; which\u00a0was exactly what I needed to hear today. Here is what it says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>May God bless you with discomfort&#8230;<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships,<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 so that you may live deep within your heart. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>May God bless you with anger&#8230;<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people,<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 so that you may work for justice, freedom, and peace. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>May God bless you with tears&#8230;<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 to shed for those who suffer pain, rejection, hunger, and war,<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and to turn their pain into joy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And may God bless you with enough foolishness&#8230;<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 to believe that you can make a difference in the world,<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 so that you can do what others claim cannot be done,<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 to bring justice and kindness to all our children and the poor. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Amen. <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I was cleaning carpets today in a house in Arlington, I noticed that there were several books sitting around called Red Letters by Tom Davis.
