(Answer: Never)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/082542559X\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=082542559X&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=jdmyers-20&amp;linkId=ZQKDITWI3L6Z7SUC\" title=\"RedeemingGod image 41269\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/1-2Chronicles.jpg\" alt=\"1-2 Chronicles\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-41269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/1-2Chronicles.jpg 300w, https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/1-2Chronicles-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>But if all Scripture is \u201cGod Breathed,\u201d then these books also deserve our attention and study.<\/p>\n<p>So I was thrilled to recently receive a review copy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/082542559X\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=082542559X&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=jdmyers-20&amp;linkId=ZQKDITWI3L6Z7SUC\">Eugene Merrill\u2019s commentary on these books<\/a>. And it is a great commentary! I can safely say that it is the best commentary on 1-2 Chronicles I have ever read. Okay, okay \u2026 this is because I have never read a commentary on 1-2 Chronicles before, but this does not detract from the value of this present volume.<\/p>\n<p>One of the things I look for most in commentaries is the ability to explain the text in an understandable way while at the same time making the message of the text applicable and pertinent to our time today. Eugene Merrill\u2019s commentary does this well.<\/p>\n<p>He not only provides detailed explanations of the text all the way through (which providing lots of footnotes for those who want to research in more depth), but he also provides theological asides that help the student of Scripture see how the book influences our life and thinking today.<\/p>\n<p>If you are thinking of preaching or teaching through 1-2 Chronicles let me say two things: First, good for you! That\u2019s very courageous. Second, make sure <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/082542559X\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=082542559X&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=jdmyers-20&amp;linkId=ZQKDITWI3L6Z7SUC\">this commentary by Merrill<\/a> is one of the sources you use in your study.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you are thinking of preaching or teaching through 1-2 Chronicles let me say two things: First, good for you!
