He has written a helpful and insightful series of blogs posts on \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.graceground.com\/community\/getting-to-know-your-neighbors\/\">Getting to Know Your Neighbor<\/a>\u201d and another series on \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.graceground.com\/community\/being-the-church-in-the-community\/\">Being the Church in the Community<\/a>\u201d which are full of practical suggestions on developing relationships with people in your neighborhood, and looking for tangible ways to love and serve them. I cannot recommend these blog posts enough.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Second, Josh Reeves is planting a church in Round Rock, Texas, and he recently wrote a list of <a href=\"http:\/\/dl.dropbox.com\/u\/7105292\/Posted%20Resources\/100%20Ways%20To%20Engage%20Your%20Neigbhorhood.pdf\">100 ways to engage your neighborhood<\/a>. Many of these are similar to the sorts of things Sam suggested in his posts. The idea, of course, is not just to do one of these, and then dump the Gospel message on them, but to host many of these so that you develop ongoing relationships with people in your neighborhood, and over time, learn better how to love and serve them. Some of these activities can get expensive, but when you consider such expenses to be your \u201ctithe\u201d then they no longer become an expense, but simply another way of serving God and others with your time and money.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"101 ways to help people in need\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1576833151\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=jdmyers-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=1576833151\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9932\" style=\"border-width: 0px;\" title=\"101 ways to help people in need\" src=\"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/101-ways-to-help-people-in-need.gif\" alt=\"101 ways to help people in need\" width=\"140\" height=\"140\"  \/><\/a>Third, there are two books which I have found to be helpful as well in giving ideas on how to serve others. But if you get rid of the gimmicky aspects of these ideas, many of them would work quite well in an ongoing effort to develop relationships and friendships with certain people in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9930\" title=\"relational tithe\" src=\"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/relational.png\" alt=\"relational tithe\" width=\"291\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/relational.png 291w, https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/relational-200x149.png 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 291px) 100vw, 291px\" \/>Finally, in a comment on a recent post (<a title=\"Devouring Widow's Houses\" href=\"https:\/\/redeeminggod.com\/devouring-widows-houses\/\">Devouring Widow&#8217;s Houses<\/a>), Tom told me about a website called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.relationaltithe.com\/index.php\">The Relational Tithe<\/a>\u00a0where people with skills and a willingness to serve can be linked together with others who have needs. The site is brand new, and I am not sure how well it will work, but I joined the site and will see what comes of it. \u00a0I am hopeful that it will provide a way for people who want to serve with people who are truly in need.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, \u201cgiving your money to God\u201d is not about putting some in an offering plate on Sunday morning, or writing a check to your favorite charity. While you can do this with some of your money, the truly biblical model of giving money to God is making your finances available for the work of the kingdom in your own neighborhood and community, among the people with whom you live and work.
