Writing Three Books at Once

Writing Three Books at Once

I am one of those people who reads five or six books at once. The reason is that I often get bored with what I’m reading, but I really want to finish the book. So rather than completely stop reading, I just put the book aside to finish later.

I realized recently that my writing projects are similar. I am currently working on three writing projects.

Book Writing

For a while there, I was focusing heavily on aย Commentary on the Gospel of Luke. I haven’t written anything on this since April. Then I switched to a book about church, calledย Close Your Church for Good.ย I haven’t forgotten about this project; I just got bored with it. So over the past several weeks, I switched over to begin writing a different book, one on questioning my theology. I began by questioning the foundations of theology, and then I wrote about 50 postsย questioning what I have been taught about the Bible.

I think I am pretty much done with the series on Bibliology, and so rather than move right on to Theology Proper where I summarize and question what I have been taught about God (I’m actually scared to begin this), I am going to go back to my other two writing projects for a while. Over the next couple weeks, I will write some posts based on my Luke Commentary, and then get a chapter or two done on Close Your Church for Good. Following this, I will return to look at Theology Proper.

If you are here only for the Theology posts, and the posts about church or about Luke hold no interest for you whatsoever, you should subscribe to the posts by email using the form below. Then once I switch over to summarize and challenge what I have been taught about God (Yikes!), you won’t miss out. I hope you do stick around for all the posts though, since I value your input and feedback as we learn about Jesus from Luke, and as we rethink how to be the church.

Yeah, I don’t know how in the world you do, and keep your thoughts straight at the same time!

Maybe the thoughts are not kept straight!

I’ve enjoyed reading all of these and undoubtedly will enjoy additional posts on these topics. After these, what do you plan to write? Perhaps you’ll happen upon some additional interesting topics.(I don’t know how to insert a smiley face emoticon here.)

Maybe something about CS Lewis, as he has really grabbed my attention recently.

I read something by him last night that really encouraged me. A young man was considering leaving his secular job to become a pastor. Lewis told him not to, because it would ruin his love for God and theology. He said, “None are so unholy as those whose hands are cauterized with holy things.”

      Wow.
