I love this quote from Gandalf:
Never feel like you have to do great and mighty things for God. You don’t.
The Kingdom of God is found in hugging your children, picking up your socks from the floor, smiling at the gas attendant, and basically just doing whatever Jesus asks you to do each and every day.
Keith Melton says
Jesus went about doing good, Christian do likewise. This is your calling and election, to be like Jesus.
Matthew Richardson says
As you likely already know, J.R.R. was, reportedly, a christian.
Michael Raines says
When revelation comes that were one with greatness, exploits happen.

Love the quote. I shared it on FB.
But I’m a little confused. Isn’t this from Tolkien, one of The Lord of the Rings episodes? He likely was Christian I assume. What has J.R.R. got to do with it? That’s Harry Potter isn’t it? I didn’t think J.R.R. was at all Christian. Anything but as far as I know. Can someone clarify?
Sam Riviera says
It is Tolkien, from “The Hobbit”, the prequel to “Lord of the Rings”. Tolkien was a Christian. J.R.R. are Tolkien’s first three initials. The author of the Harry Potter books is J.K. Rowling, whose initials are J.K.R. Rowling was brought up Anglican and last I heard was a member of the Church of Scotland. She cites Christian influences in the Harry Potter stories. Debating her status as a Christian or not has been one of those “culture war” debates in which I refuse to participate. As with everyone, if we wish to know if they’re a Christian, we should ask them.

Hey, thanks so much. Are you a partner here with Jeremy? You always seem to be on site.
Sam Riviera says
Jem, We’re not partners, just friends. I occasionally write posts. Most days I check the blog a few times, including just before I head off to bed.

He also asks us to make disciples of all nations. That sounds like a great and mighty thing to me. If we obey at least. I don’t know if I agree that the Kingdom of God is about hugs and socks, but if Jeremy is correct let’s not use this as an excuse to ignore God when he is asking us to do great and mighty things.
Melanie says
Ahhh…..but those great and mighty things are most often made up of myriads of tiny, little things. Look at the impact of Mother Theresa. The little things of showing kindness and love are more powerful than a great crusade!
Danny McCulloch says
I intuitively know that what you say is true Jeremy. Your words resonate deep within my soul. So simple, yet so profound. The language of the Kingdom.

This is a most sobering and encouraging video. I have shared it with all and thank you so for sharing Jeremy. God’s love is shown in every act of kindness we do no matter how small. How about a generous tip for those that help us at the places we frequent. Most only get a small wage and appreciate and can us a little extra. Look at the smiles and thank yous you get as your reward.
