Some might wonder why wear a long tunic in a hot climate. In fact, a loose fitting tunic was more comfortable since air could enter at the ground and flow upwards around the sweaty body to help it stay cool. A loose neck and arm holes allow much air to flow. Girding the loins would also have the effect of protecting the genitals since no one wore undergarments.
