No. I don’t want Hugh Hefner for president. I would not vote for him or someone like him.
But you know what the American people want? They want a politician who is honest. I don’t think that most Americans would care too much if a politician was like Hugh Hefner, as long as he was honest.
Just once, I would like to hear a politician own up to what he has done.
I would like to hear a politician say, “Yes. When I was college, I smoked some marijuana. Now, let’s discuss politics.” Instead, we get, “I didn’t inhale.”
I would like to hear a politician say, “Yes. I sent a dirty picture through Twitter. I sent lots of them. Now, let’s discuss politics.” Instead, we get, “That is not a picture of me, even though it looks exactly like me, and even if it is me, I didn’t send it. Someone must have hacked into my Twitter account.”
I would like to hear a politician say, “Yes. I like women. I have slept around. Now let’s discuss politics.” Instead, we get, “Yes, I gave her money for 13 years. I like to help women. I have helped lots of women. But there is no proof that we had a sexual relationship.”
I am not trying to bash Bill Clinton, Anthony Wiener, or Herman Cain. I actually really like Herman Cain. I think he had some good ideas. And to be honest, I don’t know if he is telling the truth or not. But there is definitely something he is not owning up to, and that is the point.
Americans are tired of spin and half-truths, and twisted white lies. We want someone — anyone — who simply and honestly speaks the truth, even if it is someone like Hugh Hefner.
I think the American people would be more willing to vote for someone like Hugh Hefner who openly and honestly sins, rather than someone who sins in secret and then tries to hide his failures behind more lies and carefully woven webs of half-truths. We don’t want someone who changes their story depending on the audience in front of them. We don’t want someone who refuses to speak boldly and candidly about what they believe.
It was Benjamin Franklin who said, “Honesty is the best policy.” Where are the political leaders who believe this today?
So true….why would you even consider running for president especially if your a conservative when you know every little deed that you ever did in your entire life will be found out and plastered all over, I dont get it.
Emily, Yes. I don’t know why anybody runs for political office who has skeletons in the closet. They almost always come out!
Obama is pretty honest though.
Whether he is doing a good job is a different matter.
So…. where does that leave this post?
(unless you mean the Republican candidates)
Kirk,
I’m not sure how to respond. Are you being facetious about Obama?
My point was he has a lot less skeletons in his closet than any of the other current candidates. (besides Ron Paul, who honestly doesn’t count because he is ignored by the media).
Compare him to Newt Gingrich, the current Republican frontrunner, who led the charge to impeach Clinton while having an affair and divorcing his wife who was dying of cancer.
I’m just saying that he is relatively honest compared to the rest of the field. Honestly though, that isn’t saying much considering how terrible the GOP field is.
Also, not defending Obama, just making an observation.
I don’t trust either party but the GOP is becoming so ridiculous that I can’t see myself voting for them this election or ever again at this rate.
If someone wants to try to convince me otherwise, they can feel free to try.

Apparently that was a myth, which their daughter got sick of hearing and finally disputed. Also:
Q: Did Newt Gingrich ask his former wife to sign divorce papers on her deathbed?
A: No. Jackie Battley is still alive, and the couple had agreed months before the 1980 hospital visit to seek divorce. But she was recovering from surgery to remove a tumor, and the former House speaker admits that they “got into an argument.”

So since she didn’t die what he did was ok? And trying to oust Clinton for something similar?
Is he the moral candidate you are looking for?
/Also, very funny comment about people like “me” causing America to have bad presidents.
If you have to resort to personal attacks it is obvious that you have no good arguments.
The Republican candidates pander to the far right to win the nomination and then move to the center for the general election. They manipulate people to get votes. My point is that no candidate cares about moral issues, they just want to win. The type of people that you would want in office don’t run (or don’t have the party support, or money, which is ALL that matters)
I am really curious about which candidate you will be supporting?
I don’t trust any politicians. I am not excited about any of the candidates.
Although frankly, I would kind of like to see what Ron Paul could do in the White House. He is so different from anything we have had before, it might be good.
Maybe this would be a good time to get some “Cain for President” posters cheap!
My grand dad was a career politician, a Democrat. My father shared grand dad’s political views, but not occupation. My father married my mother, whose church and family were convinced that God voted Republican. My father would not go to church or go anywhere near my mother’s relatives the month before an election.
When JFK was running, I remember months and months of “if he’s elected the pope will be running the country”. He was elected and the pope never ran the country, just like all the other dire political predictions I heard from the naysayers never came true.
A few years ago I saw a chart that listed the campaign “promises” of various politicians who have been elected to office. Guess what? They kept almost none of their promises.
Putting our trust and hope in any politician is hopeless. The only person I know who is entirely trustworthy and the only one in whom I can confidently put my hope is Jesus. He keeps his promises.
Sam,
So true. We must not trust in any politician, whether from the right or the left or a moderate. Jesus alone keeps his promises, as you say.
Lets start with the truth and nothing but the truth, we are all liers. That wasn’t to hard was it.
How should we vote, read their manifesto and either vote for the one who you believe is closest to what you see as possible and necessary and vote or spoil the paper which means their is no one who measures up. This spoilt paper is happening in Egypt.
Whoever gets in power, pray for the countries success through them, support them in any way you can. Even if you don’t like them or their policies. If you try to bring them down you are not following Gods command, because you are putting yourself up as judge.
Concentrate on the good the government is doing not what it aint.
Clive
Great point Clive. We’re all liars. I know I am.
That is one reason I will never run for office…
I think that what you have expressed here is what Paul taught about how we are to interact with our governments.
I think ALL politicians are liars. And Jesus was neither left wing not right wing. (We’ll be living under a theocracy when Christ rules), but Obama is a bald-faced liar. The ONLY candidate I would even think of voting for would be Ron Paul. He’s honest to a fault, and he is not a modern republican “the republican that everyone loves to hate”, but a Libertarian.
But Ron Paul won’t win because “they” don’t want him to win, so they ignore him.
But that’s what this country needs. Less government, not more. Just my 2¢. I’ll get off my soapbox now. 🙂
Anthony,
You are writing some great political posts over on your blog. I enjoy reading them! You know, as I was writing this post, the thought did cross my mind… “I wonder about Ron Paul?”
He makes me nervous though. I’m not sure why. Actually, all politicians make me nervous…
Hugh Heffner is pretty different too 🙂
Anthony, I’ve heard some say that all preachers are liars and that all Christians are hateful. Of course we know better.
In addition to family members who have been politicians I have had several personal friends who were politicians, including one who for many years was one of the most powerful men in the US senate. None of these people were liars or crooks.
Some people should not be in a position of power. It goes to their head and they abuse it. Whether it is a mega church pastor who hires young men to have sex with him or a politician who gets inside info and makes lots of $$$ on insider trading, some people abuse their position.
Do we abuse whatever it is that God has given us – our position, our wealth (most of us are very wealthy compared to most of the people in the world), our knowledge, or do we use it wisely? It’s easy to focus on people in the news, be they mega church pastors or politicians and see where they have gone astray and at the same time gloss over where we are abusing and misusing the talents, whatever they may be, that God has given us.
Could you provide a list of Obama’s lies that are certifiable?
This brings up the question raised in another forum a long time ago (so long I don’t remember where!) Which is, do we vote for a moral candidate or for someone who inspires our confidence that the job (i.e, our agenda) will get done? An extreme example is a quote from a woman, referring to Clinton: “I don’t care if he’s groped women or how many he has slept with, as long as he doesn’t make abortion illegal.”
Most of the answers from across the country leaned toward the assertion that one’s illicit sexual behavior should have no bearing on our perception of capability. Okay, I can see the logic in that.
But call me old-fashioned: I see the office of the President of the United States not just as its function, but to a large extent, as its representation of us as a people. This is who we select to embody our values to the world and to the younger generation of Americans. We expect the decisions the President makes on our behalf to align with those values.
So while it’s understandable to respect a would-be “public servant” who comes clean, is it too much to ask or to hold out for a candidate who has lived a life of integrity to best of his/her ability, so that public confession becomes unnecessary? Or will you suggest I move to Utopia?
Candy Land is great this time of year!
and I dare you to name one president who actually “lived a life of integrity” and “represented the people” in the past 50 years.
You don’t become president by being a nice person who does great deeds, you become president by being ambitious and stepping on people to make your way to the top.
In other words, vote for who will get the job done not some “character” who tries to pretend to be moral so they can win an election.
that is my take anyway..
Exactly. We haven’t had one in the past 50 years BECAUSE of voters who vote the way you do.
And yes, this is my Candy Land—I am a grateful naturalized American who grew up under martial law. We’ve had crooks for presidents in “the old country.”
With everyone picking at the candidates sins, we will never find a sinless candidate. I feel it’s important to look at their voting history. If people bothered to check, they would have seen that Obama was a communist since day one and that Gingrich would lead us directly into the NWO without even a kiss. McCain was the one who initiated the bill for permanent detainment of citizens that Obama promised to veto….I’m still waiting for that veto. If Ron Paul were not a candidate, I would vote Santorum. Cain ran the Federal Reserve. Didn’t trust him since day 3. I liked him though.
I like Ron Paul too. If only he had a real shot at winning (thanks media!). He has a very consistent voting record.
I try to be anabaptist in these sort of things, but by golly, I just can’t do it! I pray constantly for my leaders (yes, even Obama), and I pray that the lord’s kingdom comes without too much difficulty on my part 🙂 (Can you tell I’m not pre-trib?)
So we all agree… Ron Paul for President?
If only! With Gingrich in the lead (probably soon to fall like the rest though) and Romney holding steady, I feel like we will get to choose between Romney or Obama…………which is just awesome……..goodie…..
Ron Paul 2012! haha
Like Rockefeller said when they created the federal reserve…”it doesn’t matter now who you vote for now, you’re always voting for us”
It’s going to be an interesting election year, that is for sure!
I suspect politics has long gone the way of the used car business. And anyone who wants to be president of these United States is either naive or power-hungry…or both, in my humble opinion. But nonetheless, the system and the politicians will go as far as we, the American voters, will let them. I voted for Ron Paul in his first bid for president. I’ll probably vote for him again this time. He’s probably a bit naive and idealistic, but I’ll take that over (blank) who is power-hungry and self-absorbed (fill in the name of ANY candidate running this year, from either party). And I think, at least as far as anyone can tell, RP is pretty honest. I mean, he’s no stranger to this process of running for president and nobody’s dug up any dirt on him yet. Either he’s not worth the money and effort to do so, or there just isn’t anything. He doesn’t seem to be too concerned about what anyone in D.C. thinks about him or his ideas, which is very “apolitical” of him, and that makes him endearing to guys like me who hate politicians in general.
And for the record, I agree with the post, Jeremy. I’ll take an honest but otherwise flawed man over a deceitful moral icon any day.
This guy here thinks he has dug up some dirt on Paul, but he has no clear evidence: Angry White Man
The next year sure will be interesting!
The GOP wants Romney, and they’ll prop him up like the Democrats propped up Obama. Never in my life time did I think that someone like Ron Paul would have lasted this long, or even considered by the American people. Neither did I think people would be realizing that the banksters run everything…but then it started splintering off into pro-communist slogans (Occupy Wall Street). Too many people want stuff but aren’t willing to give up stuff.
Which GOP hopeful do you think will do the best job representing marginalized citizens of our country, those outside the mainstream such as the children, women, old people, sick people, poor people, uneducated people? Why?
Duran,
I don’t think there is one, but I don’t think any politician can do these things. Do you think Obama is doing these things well?
Let me ask you this then: Which GOP hopeful do you think will do the best job representing the wealthy citizens of our country? Why?
You ask, “Do you think Obama is doing these things well?” I have to ask you, “Compared to whom?”
Compared to anyone.
I would say, given the current state of affairs in the United States, Obama has performed as well as can be expected, and at one of the lowest points in US history, his approval ratings remain around 50%. Do you think John McCain could have performed as well as Obama? One thing is for sure – Obama is doing a better job than his predecessor. In September 2008, in polls performed by various agencies, George Bush’s approval rating ranged from 19%—the lowest ever to 34% and his disapproval rating stood at 69%. Bush left the White House as one of the most unpopular American presidents, second in unpopularity only to Richard Nixon. Given the current xenophobic and bullying behavior of the GOP, I think I have a lot of thinking to do before I would vote for either GOP hopeful.
I think Obama is fulfilling Bush’s legacy. He’s more war hungry than any other president.
Duran,
I think many of Obama’s decisions have made things worse, but it is likely that if McCain had won, many of his decisions would have made things worse as well, but in different ways.
And regardless of who is president, we have bigger problems it seems with congress. They are more useful now for entertainment purposes than for anything else.
Jeremy, I wholeheartedly agree with you about Congress being an impediment to solving the problems of our nation. As Speaker of the House, John Boehner’s performance is dismal, almost as poor as his buddy Dubya’s performance as president. And, Nancy Pelosi’s behavior in dealing with issues isn’t any better. They are all narcissistic, selfish and mean-spirited, protecting their earmarks and special interests above all. The threats facing the U.S. now are asymmetric, numerous and dispersed and, because of this, are not great enough in total to fundamentally unite us as well as our elected representatives in Congress. So, what one threat will cause us to unite us as a nation?
I don’t even want to think about what that threat would… WW3 maybe? A threat of that nature would probably also cause our economy to collapse.
Which, in turn would be ripe for the Antichrist to enter. But Syria (Damascus) has to be wiped off the face of the map first.
Good article.
