When Someone Says, “I’m smarter than you!”

When Someone Says, “I’m smarter than you!”

I'm Smarter than you!Nobody says to a dog, “I’m smarter than you!”

Why not?

Because they know they are smarter.

Therefore, people only say, “I’m smarter than you!” when they know they are not.

So the next time someone says, “I’m smarter than you!” just smile and thank them for the compliment.

FedEx and Fellowship Bible Church

FedEx and Fellowship Bible Church

I had the privilege of meeting “FedEx” of the Men of Praise Motorcycle Ministry last night. We talked about life, ministry, and blogging.

Men of Praise Motorcycle Ministry

One of the things he told me about really excited me, especially in light of the book I am writing, Close Your Church for Good.

He told me of the church he is part of and some of the things he does with his Motorcyle Ministry.

The church is Fellowship Bible Church with Pastor Raleigh Gresham. From what I heard, this church “gets it.”

For example, the city recently passed a “no camping” ordinance to restrict the number of homeless people who were camping in city parks and vacant lots. So the church, which owns some acreage, started letting people camp out on their property–no strings attached.

Awesome!

Unmasking My Secret Identity

Unmasking My Secret Identity

Did you know I have a secret identity? Well, I do.

And I’m about to let you get a glimpse of who I really am.

No, it is not that I have an alias, or am a top-secret spy from a government agency.

Instead, my secret identity is the part of me that most people don’t know. The part of me that I am often ashamed of. The part of me that is scared to come out. The part of me that stays hidden and locked away.

I cannot share everything, since that is too painful, and too terrifying.

So a small glimpse will have to suffice for now.

How to Write Like C. S. Lewis

How to Write Like C. S. Lewis

CS LewisTell me if you recognize this story:

During a war, some children are sent to a relative’s house in London while the father is away at war and the mother is sick. While there, they come by a piece of jewelry which magically takes them to other places. In one of these places, they encounter a Queen who knows magical words of power.

Through a series of circumstances, when the children return to London, the Queen comes with them and causes great havoc in London.

After they get her out of London and back into her own land, they journey to other lands where they witness the rise and fall of nations and empires. They finally return home, and their father returns, and the mother gets well, and all is at peace.

If you said, “Oh, that is The Magician’s Nephew by C. S. Lewis” you’d be wrong.

Want to see what I looked like in High School?

Want to see what I looked like in High School?

I started a YouTube channel last week. I am not sure what I will eventually put on there, but right now, I wanted to make some old videos from high school available to some of my friends. I’m sure many of them forgot we even made them.

Here are four I decided to post on my blog:

The Search for Truth

This was a video we made as a Youth Group with the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Missoula, MT. We had to include several things in the video. I could only remember the four I put in the opening credits. I must point out that we are all bad actors, we had no video editing equipment or computers, and no script. You have been warned.

How to Build a Ski Jump

First, a friend of mine, Eric Peterson, was taking a video production class, and made a video about building a ski jump. Then we performed a few jumps on it. I am the one who is really, really bad. And yes, that is me breaking my back at the end. I apologize for the poor quality of the video…it was pulled off a VCR tape from 1993. The static does go away after a while…

Evangelism Techniques

Second, I and a few other friends, Seth Palmer and Jeremy Sayre, made a video as a Senior Class project about Evangelism. Yes, I went to a Christian school. Anyway, we are not the best actors, and didn’t have any video editing equipment. We just shot one scene, and then shot the next scene, and so on. We had one take per scene. So that explains some of the quirks. Hope you can follow the story line. Oh, and I cringe at what we are teaching in the video. But I still find it funny.

The Driven

Finally, I was in a band. We were called “The Driven.” I played bass, and I stunk. But it was fun. We actually had some great songs, and at one point I had a tape with all of our music on it, but I have looked and looked and cannot find it. Andrew Snyder, the lead guitarist, wrote most of the lyrics and music for our band. Brodie Ellis is on rhythm guitar, and Seth Palmer is on the drums.
