I love my new job. It pays me beans, but I basically get paid to read while I work. Last week, I read three books. So far (it’s Tuesday), I’ve read two more.
I’m realizing that while I’ve been in seminary, my mind went into reverse. There is something about my rebellious flesh that cannot enjoy a book if I am required to read it. Though, if truth be told, most of the assigned reading at seminary is mind-numbingly boring. Not all, but most.
Anyway, since I got this new job, I’ve been reading about two books a week, and I can feel my mind starting to reawaken with creativity and life. I love it. I don’t want to sleep or eat. I just want to read, think, and write. My mind is on fire with ideas. It’s my resurrection from the land of the dead.
I’m not sure what job I will get next (this job ends in mid May), but whatever it is, I need to keep reading (even if it’s not at work). I also don’t think I’ll go on for a Ph.D. I’d get Permanent Head Damage, and I’m not sure I’d pull out of that kind of tailspin.

See you’re reading Visioneering. That one’s at the top of my “I’ll read that this summer” list. Let me know how that bad boy turns out so I’ll know if it’s worth my time.
Better yet, take notes and sythesize it into a one-page summary and you can save me lots of time! j/k

Gabe,
Ha ha! So funny. You want the cliff notes, huh?
It actually appears to be a book made from a sermon series on Nehemiah. It’s good, but frankly, I’m a little bored with it…
He has a different book called “Making Vision Stick” which might be better. People are saying it is simpler to follow and more practical. So, if you haven’t already bought “Visioneering,” I’d buy “Making Vision Stick” instead.

Actually just finished “Making Vision Stick” and I kept thinking, he needs about 300 more pages on this stuff! It was actually too short and not well-explained enough for my tastes. I’d just try to find “Making Vision Stick” in a library or something. It’s only about 80 pages long and you can finish it while you’re waiting in line at Barnes and Noble! (I do not endorse that idea, by the way.)
I got a sermon from a guy at church on Nehemiah on vision by someone that I can’t remember right now. If it turns out to be valuable, I’ll pass it along to you.

Gabe,
Thanks for the update! Well, if you want 300 more pages,
Visioneering might be just the book! It’s only about 200 pages though. It is good.
