I’m moving to Dallas!
No, not that Dallas. Been there, done that.
I’m moving to Dallas, Oregon.
It’s a small little town in Oregon, about an hour south of Portland with a population of about 16,000.
We don’t really know what to expect, and my wife and girls are leaving behind a lot of good friends here in New York. But we are excited for what this next phase of life holds for us.
By the time you read this, we will already be on the road.
A trip from New York to Oregon is about 3000 miles. That is almost as far as you can possibly go and still stay within the continental United States. Pretty much the only way you could go further is if you started in Maine and went to California.
And I am driving it all… pulling a U-Haul trailer… with a Toyota minivan… and my wife, three daughters, and two cats are coming with me.
Yes, cats. In a car.
We already took a little test drive with our cats to see how they handled riding in a car. One of them meowed non-stop the entire time, at a pace of one meow per second. According to Google, our driving time is roughly 48 hours. So I should hear the cat meow about 173,000 times.
Should be fun.
Seriously though, I’m looking forward to it.
On our route, we will be driving through these cities:
- Scranton, PA
- Cleveland, OH
- Chicago, IL
- Madison, WI
- Sioux Falls, SD
- Billings, MT
- Missoula, MT
- Spokane, WA
- Portland, OR
So if you live in any of these places, and see a guy driving a blue minivan with a U-Haul trailer behind it, and he looks a little crazy, it’s just me, taking my family (and two cats) to the next chapter in our life.
See you on the other side!

Have a safe trip, We just drove from Ephrata, WA to East Hartford, CT. It took us 6 days in a car and we will be heading back out west on Thursday after a visit to New York City.
