We Christians are far too serious.
In seminary, Howard Hendricks used to look at us students all sitting there in class and say, “When I look at most of you, it just makes me want to cry.”
It is for this reason that I really enjoy the following blogs. Some contain “Christian” humor, some atheist humor, and some just good humor.
Do you know of any others?
Some of these may offend you, but here is how I think Jesus responds to every single one (including the last one there which pokes fun at religion with a really big stick):
![Laughing Jesus Jesus laughed a lot](https://redeeminggod.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/laughing-jesus.jpg)
This post was (loosely) based off of the Grace Commentary on Luke 5:33-39.
These are very funny. You might also like mpt’s blog at http://www.jesusneedsnewpr.net/
Oh yes, I’ve seen that one. Good stuff there.
There are times when I am having a serious moment with Jesus – being quiet and reverent and then Jesus will make a reference to Monty Python or some other absurd humour.
As I spend a lot of time in the presence of Jesus, I realize exactly how funny he is and I’m surprised by him.
Andrea,
Yes, the humor of Jesus is often surprising!
Hi ,
‘God has gladness’ .
(Zepha. 3:17).’ He smiles.’
(Numbers 6 :25) Jesus
rejoiced (Luke 10:21)
Jesus ‘humorous,nature
is seen in His making
long necked Jiraph, huge
elephants and Camels.,
but not in conversation.
This shows the carnal nature. He was rejoicing
but not in funny talks.
His talk was not jolly, whimsical, laughable,
or jokey.Otherwise it
would have been record ed.Funny talk falsely repre
sent the realities .He
was always serious, talk
ing the truth, because He himself was truth. He was after The Spirit.(Rom.8 :5), living spiritually.
Being with the Holy Spirit (Matt 4 :1,) His life was
filled with the fruits such
as love, joy, peace,faith
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,meekness, & temperance.'(Gal.5:22,23)
Jesus ‘ teaching was figurative. He gives the reason of it in,
(Matt. 13:10-13, 15)_:
‘The disciples came & said unto him, Why speakest
thou unto them in para
bles? He answered & said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know
the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.13 Therefore speak I to them
in parables:because they seeing see not & hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.15 For
this people’s heart is
waxed gross & their ears
are dull of hearing,& their eyes they have closed;
lest at any time they
should see with their
eyes & hear with their
ears & should understand with their heart, & should
be converted,& I should
heal them.”
lt is written in (Mark 3:16,
17) :’Simon he surnamed
Peter & James the son of Zebedee & John the brother of James & he surnamed them Boaner
ges, which is, The sons
of thunder & Simon he surnamed Peter &James
the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James & he surnamed them Boanerges, which
is, The sons of thunder. ‘
He was knowing already that all of them will be offended because of Him
& will forsake him,& will flee.(Matt. 26 : 31, 56)
He was knowing their unbelief & hardness of heart. Because they were not believing on His resurrection, when he
told them .( Mark 16: 14)
(Ecclesiastes 2: 2)states,
,’ To be a laughter, is a
mad thing ‘.
And,
(Ephesians 5 : 4) says,
‘There must not be
filthiness, silly talk, or
coarse jesting, which
are not fitting.’
lt is stated in, (1Timo. 2:2,3 )
‘ Lead quiet & peaceable life in all godliness & honesty.’
