Thanks goes out to Neil Braithwaite for alerting me to this new series coming to television, “The Preachers of LA.”
Words fail me so you will just have to watch the video…
The fun really starts at about the 1:10 mark…
What is your response after watching this video about the Preachers of LA?
Pam McCrary Esteven on Facebook says
Wow. That’s not a good wow, either. James 3:1 ” My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.”
Dan says
They are salesman and their product is Jesus and the benefits of Jesus = health, wealth, happiness, prosperity. Religion is a business. Think its a coincidence they are all good looking, fit, charismatic, entertainers?
Dan says
Too bad they seemed to skip the part about modesty and humility, I don’t recall Jesus being rich. I don’t begrudge them making a good living and living comfortably but do think if it was truly all about God they would use a large part of the millions they are apparently making to help others/give to charity rather than on Rolexes and mansions and multiple exotic cars, etc…I don’t think if Jesus was walking the earth today preaching that’s how hed be living. I think hed be living modestly. I wouldn’t begrudge them taking 250-500k/Yr. in salaries but think they are all about the $$$ from their lifestyles.
Bud Brown says
Reminds me of that other “too good to be true” farce, “Amish Mafia”.
Jeremy Myers says
Never heard of that one…
Danny says
About half way through I thought, hold on, this isn’t a drama, it’s for real! 2Tim 3:5 comes to mind “Avoid all such people, turn away from them”
Jeremy Myers says
Yes. These are real pastors and this is a real show!
WARD KELLY says
Wow, that is so sad it is hard to put into words. We have to be living in the last days…
Jeremy Myers says
Very sad, isn’t it? My heart breaks.
Sojourner919 says
Unreal. At first I thought this was an expose, but sadly it looks to be a “reality” series that will end up portraying these pastors as “real” and “human” while giving ample opportunity for them and those around them to vindicate their lifestyles and the heresies in which their rooted. Reminds me of the audio-roundup of preachers/teachers on the audio-book version of Hank Hannegraaf’s first edition of (sp?) Christianity in Crisis. Wow. How infected the church remains with the worst that comes from prosperous capitalism; and so much more could be said once again about all that the Bible has to say about the love of money, seeing the gospel as a means of gain, what are the true riches, what Jesus meant by life abundant, the spiritual disadvantage of being rich, and false teachings/false teachers/false prophets, etc… I think you might say this video made me angry!… Calming down now, with God’s help…
Jeremy Myers says
yes, I read that book by Hank. You are right. This tv show is what we warned about in that book. Very good connection!
daniel dale tilton says
i had to turn it off …it made me sick in my stomach to watch …i watched about 3 mins of it …
its so messed up man!!
shalom
mr.ddt
Jeremy Myers says
Very messed up!
Keith Claridge says
Oh my days…
Jeremy Myers says
Yep. That’s about all that can be said.
Taco Verhoef says
That is what was preached all the time in the churches or the conferences where I came, only difference is that the pastor(s) was not living up to it, so he or she was not very rich. But they took it from their American friends, who where also pastors. Of course it was not as extreme as you see in this clip but still.
Jeremy Myers says
yes, this way of pastoring is very common, but often not as blatant as being shown here in this show.
Terry Zeyen on Facebook says
sad… they will all stand at the Bema and receive according to what they have done (if they truly know Him).
Dustin Ryman says
Pulpit pimps. I wonder if their congregations know where their tithes and offerings are going? If they don’t, they soon will.
Jeremy Myers says
Pulpit pimps! I love it!
The thing is, I think most of the people in the congregation like having pastors who live this way, because the pastors keep telling them that if they just give more money, God will bless them with riches, just as God has blessed their pastor.
Dustin Ryman says
It’s sad. But their ignorance is helping awaken others to how ‘Not’ to serve Christ. It is adding to the fuel that is causing people to leave the contemporary church.
The Ikklesia is rising out of this corruption and ‘false church’.
Darnell Whitfield says
That’s why you need to read the Bible for yourselves. I for one believe in prosperity, but not on the ignorance of people that are moved by emotion. I love having more than enough. But my conviction is to live this life in great health, wealth and seeking God for direction. It’s o.k. to be a giver because I am one, but I know when to give and when to keep my money in my pocket. It’s not a sin to be rich, but seek to be prosperous God’s way.
Dan says
Pulpit Pimps, love it, that should be the name of the show.
TortoiseAlwaysWins says
That’s amazing. I’m using that. (…currently writing lyrics based out of the Cleansing of the Temple from John 2.)
Jeremy Myers on Facebook says
Yes, sad indeed. As you say, the Bema will bring all to light.
Dan Hergott says
Only in America, (I hope).
Jeremy Myers says
I hope so too.
mickholt says
No words.
Jeremy Myers says
Nope. So sad.
Sam says
The LA area has some unbelievable churches. If you’ve not been there, you might find some of the churches in the OC area especially ostentatious. Lots of $$$ get thrown at buildings, staff and programs, while the homeless, literal slaves, and others in bad circumstances live nearby. There appears to be a significant disconnect between the culture in those churches and the poor in the city.
Jeremy Myers says
Right. I wonder what LA would look like if all the money poured into these buildings had been used to help the poor, educate children, fix homes, etc. It would be a different city!
Naomi T. Drake says
What’s done in the dark comes to the light. To put their sins out there is a shame. However, this is absolutely nothing new. Jim and Tammy, the air conditioned dog house, being able to charge “your way to heaven” in Tammy’s famous words. Olsteen might not be in LA, Dollar, is in Atlanta. It’s just coming to reality television. Prostituting drama for more money.
byronspokane says
These rich Preachers well be judged by GOD.
Ralph Newman says
Today’s Pastors are the Hitler’s of the 20/21st century;
they mass murder the flock of God.
All great movements are popular movements. They are the
volcanic eruptions of human passions and emotions, stirred into activity by the
ruthless Goddess of Distress or by the torch of the spoken word cast into the
midst of the people.
Adolf Hitler
All propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate
itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to
reach.
Adolf Hitler
By the skillful and sustained use of propaganda, one can
make a people see even heaven as hell or an extremely wretched life as
paradise.
Adolf Hitler
Great liars are also great magicians.
Adolf Hitler
How fortunate for governments that the people they
administer don’t think.
Adolf Hitler
Run away as fast as you can, hold
fast to the faith we’ve been taught
Ralph Newman
A. S. Mathew says
Big business through using “GOD”s name. How did JESUS and HIS disciples live on earth? Great men of GOD like John Wesley, Martin Luther, D.L Moody etc lived a very simple and humble lifestyle and gave away whatever they could to help the needy people.
If the modern prosperity preacher can buy a home in a safe location for $ 250000.00, how they can blow 3 million with all the golden fitting at home. I don’t think none of these
preachers believe in heaven, so they create heaven on earth and enjoy while in the same city, poor people are struggling for food and clothings. This is a terrible tragedy of the modern times.
Jeremy Myers says
Good questions. This is another tragedy of modern times, as you say.
daniel dale tilton says
i should add it was the show ..that made my feel sick not the vid clip… however i just watched it and wow ..what a mess…
