Blog posts that make you go hmmm…

Here are the blog posts that made me think this week. Thanks to you who wrote them!

  1. Eddie at the Kouya Chronicle wrote a post about why God doesn’t whisk us away to heaven as soon as we believe.
  2. Along with Arthur Sido, I find that what Scripture doesn’t say is often as important as what it does.
  3. Eric at A Pilgrim’s Progress made me do a double take with this post about what he thinks of the Senior Pastor.
  4. Ben Byerly wrote about a message that was given at Urbana about money and power in missions. Good reminders for all of us.
  5. Donald Miller reminds us that the way most of us use the Bible is probably the main way to not use the Bible.
  6. Felicity Dale never writes a bad post. How does she do it?
  7. Elizabeth at Unravel reminds us that the Christianity of today is closer to the religion that Jesus rejected, rather than the way He taught.

That should keep you busy for the weekend. Keep writing, because I’m reading!

How to Add your Blog to Facebook

How to Add your Blog to Facebook

I don’t know if you care about this, but I just wasted 45 minutes trying to figure out how to add my Blog Posts to Facebook.

Ironically, this was not so that I could add my blog to Facebook, but so that I could remove by blogs from Facebook. My blog posts have been posting to Facebook for a few years now, and I do not remember how I put them on there.

Due to some information I discovered at the blog of Alan Knox, I wanted to make some changes to how the posts appear on Facebook. But I couldn’t figure it out, and all of the websites I found online were out of date.

So, if you want to post your blog on Facebook, or like me, unpost it, here are the current steps (until Facebook changes it again):

  1. From your Facebook Home, look on your Left Sidebar for the “Notes.”
  2. Click on Notes. A drop down menu appears. Click on “My Notes.”
  3. On the Left Sidebar, there should be an area that says “Subscribe” and “Edit Import Settings.” (When I was importing notes, this link was only visible when I actually clicked one of my Blog Post Notes).
  4. Enter (or remove) your Blog feed in the box provided. Save, and you’re done!

Update: If you want to put your blog posts on Facebook (and other social networks like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Google+, I highly recommend the Social Network Auto Poster plugin from NextScripts. I use it on this blog, and it sends my posts to Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Delicious, Diigo, StumbleUpon, and a few others.

Why do you write?

Why do you write?

I’m not sure why other people write, but I write to learn. Writing, for me, is an attempt to put some order to all those ideas and thoughts bouncing around in my head. They are like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that come together through the process of writing. Sometimes, it seems I don’t really know what I think about something until I write it. Even then, it’s often more of a hypothesis.

Nor do I don’t think my ideas are so brilliant that everybody needs to learn them. I am just one of those people that thinks best on paper — or through a keyboard. Sometimes, although a set of ideas sound good in my head, when I type them out they look rather foolish.

So why do I post these idea on a blog? Because even though it might make sense to me, I want to bounce these ideas off you. Though it might make sense to me, if it sounds like gibberish to you, or you can show me where I am wrong, I might change my views.

That is part of why I write. Why do you write? And have I said anything foolish recently that you want to point out?

Alan Knox – Top of my Blog List

Alan Knox – Top of my Blog List

As I indicated last night, I read a lot of blogs, and am considering cutting down the list.

One blog that certainly would survive the cut is the blog of Alan Knox. As I checked through my Google Reader statistics this morning, I discovered that I read about 98% of his posts. That is way more than any other blog. If you are not reading Alan Knox, check him out today. He is one of the most gracious and insightful bloggers I know.

I was able to video chat with Alan this morning, and he and I talked about a few items, one of them being blogging. He has over 450 blogs in his Google Reader! I only have 146. So I got some tips from him on how he handles it all. Thanks Alan!

In second place on my blog reading list, if you are curious, is John Saddington at Tentblogger.com. I read him because I am trying to learn more about blogging and social networking. He is a genius.

Check them both out and let me know what you think.

Aaaaaaggghhhhhh!

Aaaaaaggghhhhhh!

You know what I hate? Opening up my Google Reader and seeing that I have 483 blog posts to read. I just can’t keep up with everybody, let alone get over to your fantastic post to make comments, or follow up on the comment I left there last week.

I think I am going to have to seriously pare down my blog reading list.

So how many blogs do you read, and how much time  do you spend blogging per day, including reading and commenting on other blogs? While you’re at it, include Twitter and Facebook interaction.
