Happy Anniversary!

By Jeremy Myers
3 Comments

Whoa! I missed my anniversary! Yikes.

No, not my wedding anniversary…my blog anniversary! It was June 19. I started this blog about a year ago. In that time, I made 206 posts, received about 900 real comments, and nearly 70,000 spam comments. So, those of you making real comments better pick up the pace.

I won’t tell you which posts received the most attention, because frankly, I’m now ashamed of some of my popular posts. It is amazing how much a guy can change in year. Thanks for coming along for the ride, and I am excited about what the next year might bring!

Tag, You’re It!

Tag, You’re It!

Daniel over at Messy Pastorย tagged me to reveal seven things about myself that not many people know. That’s a creative idea, so here we go:

1. I am a cat lover, and can’t stand dogs unless they act like cats (small, sit on your lap, don’t bark…). Sadly, I don’t have a cat right now…we had to leave him in Montana when we moved to Texas three years ago.

2. I am addicted to books.ย Not reading them…just buying them. I love to read too, but I buy three times as many books as I read. It’s out of control.

3. I deleted this one, because I don’t want people to know this fact about me. And besides, it’s not true any more.

4. I am a lifelongย Oakland Raiders fan, but don’t admit it much recently.

5. I have watched “The Matrix” about 60 times since it came out. I could write a book about “The Gospel in the Matrix.” One day I probably will lead lead a “movie Bible study” and begin with “The Matrix.”

6. I’m going to ditto Daniel on #6: I can’t stand self-righteous or legalistic Christians.

7. I grew up in a family of ten kids. Yep. I am second oldest. You can see how crazy my family is over at tenarrows.blogspot.com.

The Definition of Busy

The Definition of Busy

2011 Update: I think one of the dumbest posts a blogger can make is a post about how we are too busy to write a post… ย But it’s a mistake almost all of us make. Here is mine from 2007:

How to define BusyHow do you define “busy”?

Here’s mine: You know you are busy when you catch yourself making a list for all the things you need to make lists for:

  • Make a list of things I need to do for the adoption process.
  • Make a list of things I need to do for my Thesis.
  • Make a list of homework projects that are coming due soon.
  • Make a list of high priority projects at work.
  • Make a list of things I need to do around the house and to the car to keep everything working.
  • Make a list of edits and changes that need to be done to the website.
  • Make a list of things to do to keep from going crazy.

How about you? How do you know when you’ve taken on too much?

The Blog Monster

The Blog Monster

monster.jpgI’ve never done much posting in forums or blogs, so this blog is new territory for me.

And wow, I am amazed at myself. The things I am tempted to write (and maybe occassionally do write) in the posts and comments reveal pride, anger, and an ego that I have never before experienced. Sure, I have some theological disagreements with some of those who make comments, but I don’t think I would get thisย upset if I were having a face-to-face conversation.

So I apologize. I thought about going back and deleting some of my comments, but then I figured, “Trying to hide my faults is only more pride.” Besides, I do say some good things in some of those comments. (There goes my pride again! Ha ha). So my dirty blog laundry is out for all to see. I have a monster within me, and he sometimes fights to get out.

Another factor of the blog monster I did not consider is the amount of time that blogging can consume. I am too busy to do the things that are already on my plate, let alone taking time to read and write comments.

If those of you who have more experience blogging than I do can give me some me some tips on how to control the blog monster, I would appreciate it. Maybe just more prayer and more time between readingย comments and responding to them is all I need.

Welcome to the TILL HE COMES Blog

Welcome to the TILL HE COMES Blog

Welcome

Do you ever get random thoughts about life, God, theology, the Bible, marriage, child rearing, and monkeys? I do…sometimes all in one thought. And the great thing is that the internetย provides me a place to post all these random musingsย for the whole world can see…or at least those who read the blog. And better yet, after reading what was probably better left unsaid, you can write comments back telling me how crazy I am, or telling me that you had similar thoughts the other day.

For example, recently I have been labeled a “heretic.” I am trying to decide whether that is a good thing or a bad thing. As my friend Rene Lopez says, “Love me or hate me…just don’t ignore me.”ย This blog is where I could post what is going on, and interact with you on the issue.

Also, my wife and I are seriously considering doing a church plant. I have some crazy ideas about church that might get me labeled as a heretic again.ย I don’t want to be heretic (who does?), and so am thinking about posting some of my ideas about church that come to me at 3 am (along with the monkeys), and let you weigh in on the subject.

So, keep checking back! It’s going to be quite a ride.

[2015 Note: I had no idea how big of a ride it would be! Looking back now, I sort of feel bad for the guy who wrote this post. He had no idea what was about to happen to him. … And in case you are wondering, this is no longer the TILL HE COMES blog, but is now the Redeeming God blog. Read more about the transition on the about page.]
