One Verse PodcastThis episode of the One Verse Podcast might be the strangest one yet. Weโ€™re going to talking about oceans of bunnies and mountains of spiders, and what both have to do with Genesis 1:11-12.

If you want to hear something youโ€™ve probably never heard before, listen to the Podcast below!

The Text of Genesis 1:11-12

Genesis 1:11-12. Then God said, โ€œLet the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earthโ€; and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

In this discussion of Genesis 1:11-12 we look at:

  • Why there are two actions of God on Day 3 of Creation.
  • How Day 3 serves as a literary โ€œhingeโ€ between Days 1-3 and Days 4-6.
  • Whether there are 1, 2, or 3 types of plants mentioned in Genesis 1:11-12.
  • What it means for plants to bear seed โ€œafter their kind.โ€
  • Why death is necessary for creation to properly function.
  • What the plant cycle before the Fall teaches us about spiritual cycles in our own lives.

A New Podcast by Brandon Chase! I am loving it!

A New Podcast by Brandon Chase! I am loving it!

theology podcastsI have a 25 minute commute to work. Sometimes I listen to Conservative Talk Radio, but when I am looking for something with a little less doom and gloom, I listen to Podcasts.

Two Podcasts I almost never miss an episode of are the (1) The God Journey byย Wayne Jacobsen, and (2) Beyond the Box by Raborn Johnson and Steve Sensenig.

A blogging friend of mine, Brandon Chase, recently started his own podcast. I listened to the first two episodes last week. All I can is WOW. ย If you like listening to Podcasts about theological topics like the things we discuss here on this blog, I highly recommend Brandon’s “Real Life Radio” podcast.ย Keep it up, Brandon!

Click any of the links above to subscribe to their Podcasts through iTunes.

Brandon’s first two episodes were a discussion with Jamal Jivanjee. They discussed many of the things I have been writing about on this blog during the past couple years (prior to the current Calvinism series). They say some quite controversial things about Scripture, God, and the church. What a challenging discussion! In fact, I think that Jamal got himself in a bit of trouble by some of the things they discussed… listen to the two Podcasts and then go read his blog to find out why… You should also read Brandon’s blog.

If you subscribe to any of these podcasts, let me know what you think!

As a bonus, I often enjoy listening to The Free Believers Network Podcast as well. The discussion from 7/27/2014 called “Heaven is for NOW” was fantastic.

The Resurrection of My Podcast

The Resurrection of My Podcast

Six Denials of Peter by Jeremy MyersIt has been over eight years since I last added audio files to my podcast. Yikes! Oh well… it is up and running again now.

I will probably add one or two podcasts per month, so it won’t be an overload of information.

Click here to subscribe in iTunes.

I have been wanted to get it going again for several years now, but have never had the chance. So I decided that while we remember the death and resurrection of Jesus, it would be the perfect time to resurrect my podcast.

And what better way to do it than by posting an Easter-themed message?

This first podcast episode is called “The Six Denials of Peter.” In it, I act as if I am Peter and am telling a story about the day I denied Jesus. I show that Peter did not deny Jesus only three times, but six times.

The Six Denials of Peter

One of the things I will try to do on my podcast is not only post the audio, but also post a manuscript of what is said so that you can ask questions or make comments. I always get frustrated when I listen to podcasts and there is no way to ask the speaker for clarification or to share with him or her how much I appreciated what was said.

So whenever I make a podcast, I will also be linking to a post or page where you can leave questions and comments. For this first podcast episode, I will be leaving BOTH a blog post and a Blog page.

This blog post contains some of the Bible references you may need to check the information I provide in the podcast episode. I cover a lot of ground and do so in the form of a narrative, and so the information below will be helpful for you as you seek to follow along.

The full manuscript of what I say about the Six Denials of Peter can be found here, as well as a link to a book which first helped me see this about 10 years ago.

What are Some Good Podcasts?

What are Some Good Podcasts?

Anybody know of some good podcasts?

For the last four years, I have had a 30 minute commute, which comes to an hour every day, or five hours per week, or over 250 hours per year.

For most of that time, I listened to talk radio, and usually, I get pretty worked up about what the radio hosts discuss. I recently realized that for me, listening to these talk shows all the time was spiritually, mentally, and emotionally harmful. I need to let my mind dwell on better things.

So, I am going to start listening to some podcasts.

I want them to focus on these areas:

  • Bible teaching
  • Discipleship
  • Church Issues
  • Missional Living

Hodges on Hebrews

Hodges on Hebrews

Many years ago, I read somewhere (I think it was in Joseph Dillow’s book The Reign of the Servant Kings) about the revolutionary lectures by Zane Hodges on how to understand the book of Hebrews. Dillow’s book was printed in 1992, and so Zane’s lectures must have been given at least twenty years ago. When I read this, I wanted to find out what Zane had said, and tried in vain to get a copy of these lectures.

When I worked at the Grace Evangelical Society, we must have received requests almost monthly for these recordings, but nobody, not even Zane, knew how to get a copy of them.

Well, finally, through a friend of a friend, some traded e-mails, and the wonders of the United States Postal Service, I got my hands on these tapes, and have digitized them for your listening pleasure! The recordings are very poor, but what can you expect from tapes that are about 20 years old?

I’ve already listened to them, and while I don’t agree with everything Zane says, I kind of doubt he would still agree with himself either. But if you have ever struggled with how to understand the book of Hebrews, Zane’s lectures will send you off in the right direction.

There are eight lectures, and I will try to provide one or two per week until all are available, so keep checking back!

His first lecture is called Never Give Up and is based on Hebrews 1:1-4, 13.

Here’s the rest:

Part 1: Hebrew 1:1-4, 13
Part 2: Hebrews 1:6-9; 3:1, 14; 12:28
Part 3: Hebrews 2:5-13, 18; 12:1-2
Part 4: Hebrews 3:7-19; 4:9-11
Part 5: Hebrews 1:13-14; 4:14-16; 5:5-10; 7:24-25
Part 6: Hebrews 5:12-14; 6:4-8, 11-12
Part 7: Hebrews 10:19-25, 28-31, 35-38
Part 8: Hebrews 11:1-2, 4-7
