Liberating you from bad ideas about God
The word sheol occurs sixty-six times in the Hebrew Scriptures, and a few of these are occasionally translated as “hell” depending on which Bible translation you are reading. Yet “hell” is not a good translation of any of the occurrences of sheol in the Bible.
When the Bible talks about hell, or hades, or sheol, a completely different picture emerges about hell than most people think. We talk a bit about this today when we look at Jonah 2:2, where Jonah goes to hell.
Some say that Jesus talked about hell more than heaven and so we should do the same. Rubbish! Jesus didn’t talk about hell more than heaven. He really didn’t talk about either too much. We don’t threaten or bribe people into the Kingdom of God, but simply lay a grand vision for what life could be like with Jesus.
